Ductless heat pumps are very efficient to provide heating during winter season. Heat pumps are not only efficient in heating but also in saving energy in high consumption times like winter season. But its performance relies on the quality of the maintenance provided by the owner. There are some common issues that heat pump owners might have to face during winter season.
If the heat pump is heating but not enough as you have set on the thermostat then you should check the filters first. Most of the time, the dirty and clogged filters obstruct the delivery of the heat outside. So, if the filters are dusty clean those to get maximum heat. If the problem still exists then check the outdoor unit. There must not be anything too close to the outdoor unit because it can cause the obstruction of airflow out of the compressor. This can cause serious damage to the system.
If there is no problem found in the outdoor unit then another reason can be the low refrigerant in the evaporator coils. Low refrigerant can cause less efficient heat pump. In this case just do not use the heat pump until it is checked and repaired by a professional or it can cause damage to your heat pump.
If the heat pump discontinues to heat then it does not mean that it has broken down. There are other reasons too. The first reason can be as simple as a disturbed thermostat. Check your heat pump settings and status of thermostat. It might be altered, so set it right and check if the heating is back on or not.
Another main cause of loss of heat is change of thermostat. If the thermostat is recently got changed then it might not be appropriate one for your heat pump and it is causing the malfunction of heating in the heat pump.
If the thermostat is fixed and it is not the culprit, then check your circuit breaker. Low voltage can be the issue of the fault in heating. Reset it to provide full voltage to the heat pump so it can work properly.
In the last the issue can also be of the refrigerant leakage. This kind of issue cannot be resolved DIY. Contact the professional services to fix the issue.
If the heat pump compressor is switching on and off continuously in short cycles then there is problem with the outdoor unit. Check the outdoor unit for any bushes or anything that may resist the free overflow of the air because it might be over heating your system to turn off quickly.
Sometimes thermostat sensor gets faulty and thermostat starts to malfunction because of incorrect detection of the temperature. Get your heat pump’s thermostat checked.
Most of the time in the colder areas heat pump is used continuously 24/7 on full heat settings. In this scenario the heat pump gets overworked and lowers its efficiency. It is advisable to lower the heat setting on the thermostat during the day. This way the heat pump will not overheat and work properly during entire season.
In case of persistent problems get your heat pump checked properly. It is convenient to resolve these issues rather got your heat pump broke down entirely.
